Wednesday night proved to be tasty

By: Matt Lipman

I don’t always order a dessert after dinner, nevermind eight. I did Wednesday night. ‘How Sweet It Is’ dessert competition aboard a Cross Sound Ferry vessel, showcased the amazing cooking skills of four Chamber Members. I was on a boat, but I was in heaven.

Dessert Award

Rita’s Water Ice served the perfect summertime crowd-pleaser, a mini gelati dessert, which was voted to have the “best taste”.  The many flavors such as Passion fruit, Strawberry, Mango, Cookies and cream, were all topped with creamy custard.

Dessert Award

High Rollers Luxury Lanes & Lounge dished out the “sweetest” dessert, roulades with mascarpone. It was a soft rolled-up cake, with swirls of buttery icing inside, lathered in a pumpkin spice sauce. They also prepared the “most original” dessert, peanut butter and jelly martinis.

Dessert Award

Best of Everything Country Gourmet treated everyone with rice pudding and Grandma’s cookies.  What got everyone’s attention and received the award for “best use of chocolate”, was their homemade chocolate pudding served in a convenient bite-sized edible cup made out of – you guessed it – chocolate.

Dessert Award

Ivy’s Simply Homemade had the “overall best presentation”, with a sand castle themed display, decorated with chocolate covered brownie pops. These goodies came in a variety of flavors like Kahlúa coconut and a surprisingly tasty one with a touch of goat cheese and balsamic sauce.

I sure left satisfied that night and had sweet dreams.
