A state-wide effort encouraging children to read throughout the summer

New Britain, Conn. – Citizens Bank and the New Britain Rock Cats recently announced that Jake and Abby Ferland are winners in the “Reading Books in Summer,” (RBIS) program. They participated through their local library and entered to win the All Star Reader Grand Prize in mid-August at a RBIS game where they were rewarded with a VIP experience at the Rock Cats ball park. They received 10 free tickets, the opportunity to throw out the first pitch, customized T-shirts, meal packs and the chance to meet players before the game.

Partnering with Connecticut libraries, the RBIS program’s objective is to get kids reading by rewarding them with game tickets and experiences. More than 50,000 children ages five through 12 and more than 100 libraries participated in the program.
