Art Studio Trail and Outdoor Festival

Saturday and Sunday, October 8-9, 2011
Spend Columbus Day Weekend with abstract and representational painters, jewelry-designers, fabric artists, photographers, sculptors, glass artists and other fine crafters. Start at the FREE two-day Arts Festival on the charming and historic Madison Green (Boston Post Rd. and Copse Rd., Madison, CT). Festival includes creative crafts for children, live music and food vendors. Then with Studio pass, map and program in hand ($10 Adults, Children Free 12 and Under) head out on the Trail to explore the private working spaces of fashion and jewelry designers, professional painters, potters and ceramicists, mixed-media artists and crafters. This year’s Trail winds through Killingworth, Chester, Madison, Clinton, Haddam, Westbrook and Ivoryton. Reception is Friday, October 7, Madison Memorial Town Hall (7-9pm).

“Souvenirs” A Sultry Classical NightOut


Saturday, November 19 (7:30pm), join New York-based Geller-Anderson Duo for the triumphant opening of Beethoven’s Sonata No.1 in D Major, Gershwin’s classic Porgy and Bess, Paul Schoenfield’s jazzy Four Souvenirs, and end your evening with the delicate beauty of Nocturne by Lili Boulanger.

Violinist Sarah E. Geller has performed in venues such as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall where she made a solo recital debut as a winner of the Artists’ International Special Presentation Award. Taiwan native and pianist Wenhan Anderson has performed with the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy and is a founding member of the MusicWorks music school in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Creative Homeschooling

Fridays, September 23, 30; October 14, 21, 28; November 11, 18. (Make-up December 2) Creative Writing: Ages 8-11. 10-11am. $100. This class builds your children’s confidence as they visualize scenes and create snapshot characters with the art of “painting” with words. Use of metaphor, simile and onomatopoeia are introduced. Brainstorm creative story ideas, write “hook” sentences, and unique and moving conclusions. (5 Classes: Sept. 23, 30; Oct. 14, 21, 28; Make-up November 4).

Sculpting Techniques: Ages 7-11. 11am-12:15pm. $135. Using polymer clay, learn modeling and sculpting techniques by building and assembling the basic figure. Stamping, cane work, image transfers and texturing are also introduced. Projects include Design a Dragon Pen, Trading Cards, Sundial, and Paperweights or Coasters. (7 Classes)

Drawing through the Ages: Ages 9-14. 12:30-2pm. $150. Connect art history to drawing concepts for a richer understanding of the when, where, why, and how art is created. Take-home projects reinforce key concepts from classes. Attended Drawing through the Ages before? NEW art history periods and projects are introduced! (7 Classes) Teacher evaluations are provided for each student for all Homeschooling classes.
