Benefit Fundraiser for Jamie Douton
September 18, 2011 Groton Elks Lodge 1pm – 4pm 700 Shennecossett Road Groton, CT 06340
To say that Jamie is one of the nicest guys you would ever meet sounds like such a cliché, but anyone who knows Jamie knows that to be true. He is a wonderful father to three grown sons Nick, Sean and Jamie D and has been married to Monica for over 20 years. His family means the world to him, as well as his many friends and “brothers” in the Union Carpenters Local 24. At family gatherings it is not unlikely to see all of the adults congregating by the grill or fire pit while “Uncle Jamie” is with the kids in the yard playing wiffle ball, ladder ball or keep away from the dog. Jamie has been an intrical part of his community; volunteering many hours at the Groton Elks Lodge, even being honored with an award for his efforts as a non-member.
On July 1, 2011 Jamie fell from a friend’s roof and was life stared to Rhode Island Neurological Trauma Unit in Providence where he endured a five hour surgery to remove his broken vertebra. He spent three weeks in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit before being moved to Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston. While he continues to make improvements every day he is currently paraplegic and has a very long road ahead of him. He is expected to stay at Spaulding for six to eight weeks before returning home to begin a six to eight month out-patient rehabilitation. His long term outcome is still uncertain, but his positive attitude and courage is unwavering. He continues to hold the family together and give us all hope even from a hospital bed two hours away.
Please join us for food, fun and raffles and help us raise funds to assist with medical costs, and any adaptive equipment Jamie may need.
