The Bulletin Offers Journalism Scholarships To High School Seniors

Further Demonstrating Its Commitment To Educational Initiatives Throughout Eastern Connecticut

The scholarship program is an extension of the newspaper’s Platinum Sponsorship of The Eastern Connecticut Conference which encompasses eighteen public and private high schools throughout the region

Norwich, CT:  Paul Provost, Publisher of The Bulletin, has announced The Bulletin - Eastern Connecticut Conference Scholarship Fund Journalism Award.  The Bulletin will give up to two scholarships of $1,000 each for graduating seniors from an ECC school who intend to pursue a degree and career in journalism.

“It is a very proud moment at The Bulletin and clearly states our commitment to education at all levels throughout the entire region of eastern Connecticut,” Provost said.

Students interested in applying can ask their journalism teacher for an application, or email schools@norwichbulletin.com for an electronic copy.  The application is also available online at norwichbulletin.com.  The deadline for submitting application forms is May 23, and recipients of the scholarship will be notified no later than July 1.

The scholarship program is the newest element in The Bulletin’s commitment to schools in the Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC).   In January, The Bulletin became a Platinum Sponsor of the ECC, which includes 18 public and private high schools in the region.  In addition to providing much needed funding for high school athletic competitions, leadership programs and educational initiatives, the newspaper also publishes an article called “ECC World” every Tuesday in which student journalists report on the news, cultural and arts events and more going on in their schools.  In March, Executive Editor Jim Konrad also held three workshops for student journalists on the campuses of Fitch High School, Norwich Free Academy and St. Bernard High School.

Among many other charitable and non-profit programs and sponsorships, The Bulletin’s Tommy Toy Fund, now in its 37th year, serves almost 1,900 families and distributes toys to over 5,000 children across eastern Connecticut.  Additionally, The Bulletin is a Regional Benefactor of The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, Chairman’s Circle Member of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, member of Mystic and Northeast Connecticut Chambers and the Colchester Business Association.

The Bulletin is owned by Gatehouse Media, a national publishing company based in Fairport, New York, with 90 daily newspapers, hundreds of weeklies and more than 250 locally focused web sites.
