Groton, CT-November 30, 2011 –Just in time for Thanksgiving, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s Community Giving Program and employees donated 280 turkeys, 1,673 canned goods and over $800 in monetary donations to area food pantries. An annual donation program held at the Credit Union, Charter Oak’s Turkey and Fixins’ Drive has donated hundreds of turkeys and thousands of canned goods over the past three years in honor of former CEO Larry Hertell.

Helping to increase collection success, employees compete in a Fixins’ Food War, which is held each November to collect the side dishes that accompany Thanksgiving turkeys such as cranberry sauce, gravy, peas and stuffing. This year’s winning department was Charter Oak’s Auto Lending Department, which collected over 200 items.
