Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Hosts Luminaria Stroll and a “Christmas Trees are for the Birds” Program
Adults and Families are Invited to Experience the Beauty of the Winter Woods during a Guided Evening Walk
Mystic, CT (December 1, 2010) On Sunday, December 5, 2010, the beautiful glow of luminarias will guide the way through DPNC’s trails as we stroll through the winter woods listening and looking for signs of nocturnal activity. The walk will conclude with hot cider around a roaring fire back at the Nature Center. The program starts at 4:30 p.m. and the cost is $5 per person for members and $8 per person for non-members.
“The Luminaria Stroll provides an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of the season during what is often a hectic time for many people,” said Maggie Jones, Executive Director of the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center.
In addition to the Luminaria Stroll, DPNC will hold a “Christmas Trees are for the Birds” drop-in program from 1 – 3 p.m. also on December 5. As part of this program, the Nature Center will have all the ingredients one needs to make pinecone feeders, popcorn and cranberry garland, bagel feeders, suet cups and much more (please note that peanut butter will be used in this program). The birds in your yard will thank you for these feeders! Participants may come in at anytime starting at 1 p.m. and stay as late as 3 p.m. The program is free for DPNC members and is $10 per family for non-members.
Since 1946, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has provided visitors and the community with experiential science programs that further the Center’s mission: to inspire and nurture appreciation and scientific understanding of the natural world and foster a personal environmental ethic. DPNC serves 50,000 people each year with environmental science programs. Originally made possible through the long-term support and commitment of the Denison Society, the Nature Center is a private, not-for-profit organization funded by admission fees, memberships and contributions. With 10 miles of trails, live animals, and a natural history museum, the Nature Center provides many rewarding recreational and educational opportunities.
