Coastal Gourmet Group Announces New Chef
at Latitude 41°
Chef Terrence Maul brings exemplary culinary credentials to
Mystic Restaurant
MYSTIC,
CT - President and owner of Coastal Gourmet Group, Charles Spathakis, announced
today that Chef Terrence Maul will take the helm as Executive Chef at his
Mystic restaurant Latitude 41°.
Having prepared extravagant meals for James Beard events and dinners for Deepak
Chopra, as well as running food operations for Ming Tsai's Blue Ginger in
Wellesley, MA, Chef Maul comes to Latitude 41° with immeasurable culinary
talents.
Known for his unrelenting creativity in the
kitchen, Maul arrived at the restaurant on Tuesday, January 18 as Executive
Chef. A 1994 Culinary Institute of America (CIA) graduate, Chef Maul began his
career at the James Beard Award nominated Geronimo's in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In 1995 he returned to the East Coast to join the year-round Sea Grille on
Nantucket before crossing the Atlantic to hail as the Chef-de-Cuisine of the
acclaimed Westbury Hotel in Dublin. Maul returned to the U.S. and served as
Head Chef at the Hotel Manisses on Block Island from 1998-2000, Executive Chef
at Providence's Red Stripe American brasserie from 2003-2004, and most recently
as Executive Chef at The Up River Café in Westerly.
Maul's food philosophy is simple - look to local farmers and fishermen for the
freshest ingredients, while utilizing an American melting pot of cultures and
flavors to deliver a unique culinary experience.
"I am very involved in both Farm Fresh Rhode Island and Farm to Chef CT,
two programs that value a healthy lifestyle and connect local farmers and
fisherman with their communities," said Chef Maul. "I truly believe
that if you take care of your community, your community will take care of
you."
Chef Maul was attracted to the Coastal Gourmet Group first as a customer of the
Mystic Markets, where he has long been impressed by the quality and creative
direction of the food, and second with a connection to Charles Spathakis' own
philosophy - one Maul says is quite similar to his own.
"Latitude 41° participates in the Farm to Chef CT program, and I've found
that Charles and I are similar, in that, we are not afraid to take risks and
are both quality-oriented people. Combining forces ensures that Latitude 41°
continues on its track to being the most recognized restaurant in the
region," Maul said.
In his new role, Maul oversees all food operations at the restaurant including
banquets, off-site catering, special events and weekly promotions like the
well-followed Four at Four Happy Hour, Wednesday and Thursday Date Nights, and
the newly introduced Six at Six Blind Wine Tastings, a pairing of 6 wines with
the chef's selection of hors d'oeuvres served at 6pm, Wednesday through Friday.
"We have a lot of fun stuff happening
here," said Maul. "Now is the time to come in and check us
out."
