Grant from Dime Bank Foundation Will Help Provide Warmth

To Those Less Fortunate

(Norwich, CT)Dime Bank Foundation and Covenant Shelter have come together to provide safe and warm emergency shelter, which will help to save and enhance the lives of the most vulnerable men, women, and children in our region. With an award of $4,000 from the Foundation, Covenant Shelter of New London will be able to provide energy assistance.

According to Catherine M. Foley, Executive Director, “In past years Covenant Shelter received energy assistance funds in addition to operational funds from the State of Connecticut.  This year no state funding for energy assistance will be forthcoming.  The grant we’ve received from Dime Bank Foundation has insured that safe and warm emergency shelter will be provided to those who temporarily call Covenant Shelter home.”

Covenant Shelter was established in 1983 through a covenant between St. James Episcopal Church and St. Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in New London to meet the emergency needs of the area’s homeless. In 2009-10 Covenant Shelter temporarily sheltered 312 homeless individuals, including 156 men and 50 women, and 36 families with 72 children.
