Inaugural Stonington Economic Roundtable

Stonington First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr. is hosting the Inaugural Stonington Economic Roundtable titled “Solutions for Stonington”. The event will take place Tuesday; March 30, 2010 at the Mystic Hilton. Registration will begin at 7:45 am and the program will run to 10:15 am. The price is $15.00 to cover the cost of breakfast.

This workshop will include developing active solutions regarding the business environment in Stonington. The workshop will begin with keynote speaker Emma A. Durand. Ms. Durand is a serial entrepreneur and is currently Chief Executive Officer & Chief Technology Officer of Isis Biopolymer, Inc. ("Isis"). Isis is an early stage, Rhode Island-based medical device company and has developed a major advance in intelligent non-invasive drug delivery, the IsisIQ™. Isis Biopolymer was awarded a 2009 Innovation Award by Providence Business News. She will discuss her entrepreneurial start, economic approach in this business climate and her experience in this knowledge based industry. First Selectman Haberek stated “It is exciting to have Ms. Durand come speak to the workshop as her company partakes in an innovative industry in this growing knowledge economy”.

The second portion of the workshop will include “Facilitated Round Table Discussions”. Stonington Economic Development Commission members will facilitate stakeholder groups in brainstorming, engaging, and discussing common shared problems and solutions in this economic environment. These results will be reported back to the assembled group and utilized for "solutions" to our economic approach. A summary report after the event will be provided to participants for continued communication. Haberek stated, “Information derived from this workshop will shape our economic approach, as a strong local economy is essential for Stonington and the region”
