Board of Directors of Families United announces the closure of the agency
Letter from the Board of Directors of Families United:
It is with deep regret that the Board of Directors of Families United announces the closure of the agency after more than ten years serving the families of Connecticut. The current board members assumed responsibility for the organization in March 2011, nine months after the appointment of Executive Director, Danielle Chiaraluce. Since her hire in June 2010, Ms. Chiaraluce has worked unceasingly to identify ways to sustain the organization. However, despite her and the current Board’s efforts, funding for the agency does not allow it to continue beyond September 30, 2011. Therefore, Families United will cease operations on October 1, 2011 and begin winding down the organization.
The Board determined that closure was necessary when it realized that it could not serve the community in a manner that was consistent with its mission. Families United can no longer fulfill its mission because of the difficult financial circumstances in which it finds itself. These circumstances that ultimately led to its closure existed long before the involvement of the current Board members or Executive Director.
Though the decision is difficult and unwanted, it is necessary so that families can be transitioned to other services in their communities in a smooth and orderly manner. Ultimately, it is the respect for the families served by Families United that made this decision necessary. During this period of transition we will make every effort to assure that our families, young adults, and children are connected to community based resources.
Farewell Invitation:
