February Vacation is Beach Week at the Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut

Niantic, CT — The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut, 409 Main St., invites families to a week of beach activities held during school’s winter vacation, Feb. 20-25.
On Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 20-21, from 10 am-noon and 1-3 pm, Long Island touch tanks are set up as well as the Museum’s sand and shell collections. Prepare to roll up your sleeves and get a little wet. Additional beach-related, drop-in activities are held Wednesday-Friday, 1-3 pm.
Preschoolers get into the swing of things with one-hour classes held Wednesday-Friday, Feb. 22-24, at 10 am. On Wednesday they make their own ice cream, on Thursday they learn about Hawaii and volcanoes, and on Friday they discover the wonders of sea glass. Cost is $9 members/$15 nonmembers.
The week’s activities culminate in the Museum’s annual midwinter beach party on Saturday, Feb. 25, noon-3 pm. Come out of the cold and warm up in the Museum by building sand castles, visiting the seaweed touch tanks, doing a little indoor fishing, listening to Jamaican music, and dancing the limbo. Bring a lunch or buy a barbecue meal from the Museum’s grill chefs.
For information about the beach party or any of the school vacation special events, visit www.childrensmuseumsect.org or call (860) 691-1111 to register for the preschool programs.
