Author Fen Montaigne to Present “Journey to the Future in Antarctica” at Mystic Seaport
Mystic, Conn. ~ Environmental author Fen Montaigne will present “Journey to the Future in Antarctica” at the 2011-2012 Adventure Series at Mystic Seaport Thursday, December 15.
Montaigne is a Senior Editor at Yale Environment 360 and author of “Fraser's Penguins: A Journey to the Future in Antarctica.” Montaigne spent five months with polar ecologist Bill Fraser, who has been studying Adélie penguins since 1974. Fraser has documented the profound changes that have swept through this region as it has warmed faster than almost any other place on earth. Montaigne uses his firsthand impressions of Fraser's work and people's fondness for the penguins to bring attention to the important, but difficult, issue of climate change.
Presentations will be given at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the River Room at Latitude 41° Restaurant.
The Mystic Seaport Adventure Series runs once a month from October 2011 through April 2012. Individual tickets are $14 ($12 for members) for the afternoon presentation and $15 ($13 for members) for the evening presentation. Tickets are available online at www.mysticseaport.org or by calling 860.572.5322.
The series will continue Thursday, January 26, with Bill Cook’s presentation about his cruise to the far north, “Return to Greenland.”
