Time Off for Employees to Vote


With Election Day right around the corner ( November 2nd), some employers are asking whether they have to give employees time off to vote. Some states do have laws that require employers to give paid or unpaid time off to vote, but Connecticut isn't one of them. Nor is there any federal law requiring time off for voting. Polling places here in Connecticut are open from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, giving employees ample time to go and vote. Nevertheless, some Connecticut employers do allow employees to take time off when they can't get to the polls because of their working hours. This practice is controlled by Company policy, not goverment regulation.
