Children’s Museum Going Geothermal

The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut, 409 Main St., is going thermal: geothermal that is.

Plans are underway to drill a well that will ultimately provide heat and cooling for the museum’s fabulous old building that is steeped in character and history. This latest step is part of the museums overall goal to be as green as grass in mid-summer. The Children’s Museum and Tony the well driller welcome the public to watch the action.

Call the museum to see when any of the three wells will be drilled and to learn more. The wells should be completed between May 14-20. Silverio Mechanical LLC is installing the rest of the system in September. The geothermal system will be available for the public to observe as a permanent part of the museum’s exhibits.

The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut is dedicated to encouraging learning and sparking imagination by engaging children through creative and hands-on play in a safe and accessible community environment. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9:30 am until 5 pm; and Sundays, noon until 5 pm. Beginning June 22, the museum is also open on Mondays.
