Getting to Zero Infections by 2015

Join the Movement: World Aids Day December 1st

New London, CT.   Alliance for Living and Provenance Center invite you to join the movement to support those who live with HIV/AIDS by attending World AIDS Day activities throughout New London on December 1st starting at 12:00 p.m. with a short program and light lunch to follow at the Provenance Center located at 165 State Street, New London.  The activities include an exhibit, 2015~Getting to Zero Infections, which will bring us through a journey of HIV/AIDS past, present, and future.  Jackie Steele of Q105 will be the guest master of ceremonies, and we expect many members of our community as well as city officials.

All the activities for this day seek to remember our family and friends who have passed and honor those still courageously living with HIV/AIDS.  As stated by Kelly Thompson, Alliance for Living’s Executive Director, “HIV/AIDS is not over but it has changed.  It is time for new thinking and new approaches as we face the reality of new infections and dwindling resources.  Also, we need to acknowledge the successes of new treatments along with their serious side effects- AIDS treatment has been described as “chemotherapy for life”.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that there are 54,000 new infections annually in the United States.  For Alliance for Living, working in the local community is critical to prevent new infections.  In the last twelve months, Alliance for Living has done 35 new intakes and unfortunately nine of its members have died.  Until we think differently, we won’t change behaviors. There is still no cure for AIDS.
