Prolific Author and Sailor John Rousmaniere to Speak at Mystic Seaport

 

Mystic, Conn. ~ Author, historian and avid sailor John Rousmaniere will read excerpts from his books and share sea stories at Mystic Seaport Thursday, December 9, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

            The presentation and book signing will be hosted at the Museum’s G.W. Blunt White Building.

            Best known for his books on storms at sea, sailing instruction and yachting history, Rousmaniere has authored 28 books including such noted maritime publications as Fastnet, Force 10; After the Storm; Sleek; A Berth to Bermuda and Sailing at Fishers. Rousmaniere set the standard by which other sailing manuals have been measured with his 1983 publication of The Annapolis Book of Seamanship. The sailing textbook is used throughout America in sailing schools and Power Squadrons and covers both the fundamental and advanced skills of modern sailing.

            Rousmaniere is the former editor of Yachting and Natural History magazines and has also edited several books, including All This and Sailing, Too, the autobiography of yacht designer Olin J. Stephens II. He has sailed more than 40,000 miles, including nine Newport Bermuda Races, two Fastnet Races and three transatlantic races.

           A reception with refreshments and a cash bar will be hosted at 5:30 p.m. followed by the author’s presentation at 6 p.m.  The evening concludes with a question and answer session and a book signing. One attendee will win a complimentary autographed book following the book raffle.
