Griffin, Lawson To Visit Camp Harkness

 

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (August 6, 2010) – Kelsey Griffin and Kara Lawson will help the Connecticut Sun conclude a season-long association with the Arc of New London County on August 12th when they visit Camp Harkness in Waterford to sign autographs and participate in activities.

 

The Connecticut Sun announced it would be partnering with Arc of New London County shortly before the start of the season. Griffin and Lawson attended the Arc’s Third Annual Pirate Party fundraiser on April 24th at the Mystic Arts Center, and they participated in a meet-and-greet when the Sun hosted the Arc of New London County during Kids Day on July 17th at Mohegan Sun Arena.

 

“Going to camp is something most of us take for granted,” said The Arc of New London County’s executive director, Kathleen Stauffer. “Thanks to the generous donors who supported our fundraisers all year, people with disabilities do enjoy a bona-fide camp experience in Connecticut. We’re very grateful to the Sun and especially to Kelsey and Kara who have been so supportive of our Arc family.”

 

A 102 acre recreational facility that is completely wheel chair accessible, Camp Harkness is the site of the Arc of New London County’s Summer Camp programs, which complete their 12th camp season on August 13th.

 

Arc of New London County was established in 1952 by parents of children with intellectual disabilities to serve the citizens of New London County. Its mission is to provide individualized support, services, and advocacy to persons with intellectual and other related developmental disabilities, and to help facilitate their full participation and inclusion in the communities of Southeastern Connecticut.
