Lego Foundation Sponsors New Labs at the Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut


NIANTIC, CT – The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut, 409 Main St., announces the first of six new science labs sponsored by the Lego Foundation, is now open in the museum’s Discovery Room. 

The first lab, “The Sound Around Us,” focuses on the life found in Long Island Sound. It includes a touch tank and a fish tank with crabs, sea stars, and oysters freshly caught and donated by the Millstone Environmental Lab. Identifying charts and magnifying glasses are part of the exhibit.

The other exhibits funded by the Lego Foundation are “Dance of the Earth: Rocks & Fossils of Connecticut, Past and Present,” opening on Feb. 1; “Growing Up Healthy” opening on Apr. 1; “Metamorphosis is Everywhere,” on June 1; “The Ways of Water” on Aug. 1; and “Air” on Oct. 1. Each lab is manipulative and based on inquiry science techniques requiring participant interaction.

The mission of the Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut is to encourage learning and spark imagination by engaging children and all families through creative and hands-on play in a safe and accessible community environment.
