MEET BRITTANY DECKER

MISS CONNECTICUT 2010

Brittany Decker has wanted to be Miss America since she was a little girl who sang "Someday I'll be Miss America" at a talent show.   And now she stands ready to fulfill the goal.  She was crowned miss Connecticut at the Garde Arts Center in New London on June 26th, winning over $6000 in scholarship funds.

It was the fourth time she made it to the state stage, but she believes that her recent trips to Haiti and Cambodia are what solidified her win.


Her community service platform is called “One World: Global Awareness for Global Prosperity”.  Decker is creating awareness of third-world countries by bringing the message that we should appreciate and be "thankful for all we have here."

Brittany is a 21 year old senior mass-media communications major at Western New England College.  She has been on the dean’s list and president’s list, is an active member of several honor societies, and has received many academic honors. She recently received an Associated Press award for broadcasting and a first place award for television reporting at her college’s media competition. She recently was an intern at an NBC affiliate in Springfield, Mass., Channel 22.

 Brittany is a professionally trained, award winning vocalist who won both the preliminary and overall talent awards at the Miss Connecticut pageant, singing “Journey to The Past”, and she looks forward to performing the same song on the Miss America stage in January.

She will represent the state of Connecticut at the Miss America Pageant on January 15th, 2011, in Las Vegas, where she will compete for thousands of dollars in scholarship money and the Miss America Crown.  You will be able to watch this year’s competition on ABC, marking the Miss America Pageant’s return to network television!
