Mystic Seaport Names New Director of CommunicationsFormer Television News Producer to Lead Media Outreach
Daniel V. McFadden, a veteran journalist, has been named Director of Communications for Mystic Seaport. McFadden will be responsible for the development and execution of the Museum’s public relations efforts and will be the primary point of contact for all media inquiries. His hiring is effective immediately. “Dan’s work will be a key part of supporting and advancing public awareness of Mystic Seaport’s role as the nation’s leading maritime history museum and a center for scholarly research and education,” said Steve White, President. “He will play a critical role in keeping the public informed and engaged in the events at the Museum, most notably the ongoing restoration of the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan and her return to sea in 2014.” McFadden brings nearly 20 years of television and online news experience to the position. As a television journalist, he has worked for leading news organizations around the country, among them CBS News, NBC News, and NBC’s cable and broadcast outlets. Additionally, McFadden was a member of the team that launched MSNBC.com in 1996. He left to run Excite.com News and develop content applications for the Excite@Home ISP network. Most recently, he has been pursuing production work throughout New York and New England. “As a sailor and longtime supporter of the Museum, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to use my skills and expertise to share all the great stories that are happening at Mystic Seaport,” McFadden said. A native of Ithaca, NY, McFadden has a B.A. from Cornell University. He is also an alumnus of the Sea Education Association’s Sea Semester program.
