'80s singer-songwriter Colin Hay brings his new album to the Garde's Oasis RoomFrontman and principal songwriter for ‘80s hit machine Men at Work, musician Colin Hay will perform at the Oasis Room on Thursday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m., with his infectious, quizzically lyrical and Caribbean-spiked, blue-eyed soul. The performance is presented in association with Kitchings Productions. Whether fronting an electric band, contributing to a Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band or performing in a more low-key acoustic setting such as the Oasis Room, Hay's everyman charm, familiar voice and clever observations still resonate with audiences. Best known for penning the classic songs "Down Under," "Overkill" and "Who Can It Be Now" during his time with Men at Work, Hay tapped into a new generation of fans with his musical contributions and appearances on the hit TV series “Scrubs.” Born in Scotland, Hay moved to Australia with his family at the age of 14. In 1978, Hay met Ron Strykert and the men began playing acoustic music as a duo, eventually evolving into the band Men at Work with the addition of Jerry Speiser and Greg Ham. The group released their debut album "Business as Usual" in 1981. Following the breakup of Men at Work in 1985, Hay released several major label solo albums, including “Looking for Jack,” “Wayfaring Sons” and his latest album, 2009’s “American Sunshine.” Tickets to Colin Hay are $45 and are available at the Garde Box Office, 325 State St., New London, Conn. The Garde Box Office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and two hours prior to the curtain on performance days. Tickets may be purchased by phone during regular box office hours at (860) 444-7373, ext. 1, or online at www.gardearts.org. |
