Old Mystic Station Offers BioDiesel for Vehicles

First in the Region

April 13, 2009, Mystic, CT – As a response to Americans’ awareness of global climate change and reducing our dependence on foreign oil, the Haley Brook Market’s Mobil filling station on Route 184 in Old Mystic is taking action, offering BioDiesel™ at its diesel pump after April 8th.

“This is a better fuel for a better planet,” shares Randy Lohr of Guardian Fuel & Energy Systems who provides the fuel. “It has taken us years to get BioDiesel™ locally, for owners of diesel engine cars and trucks. They’ve been begging us to find a dealer to supply this clean fuel. Haley Brook Market is taking the first step forward, to offer a quality diesel product in response to the growing trend to cut emissions and replace a portion of our foreign oil needs with renewables.”

Biodiesel is a true diesel fuel (Rudolph Diesel invented the engine to run on vegetable oil) made from vegetable oils or animal fats, then chemically reacted in a process called transesterification. Since the fuel can be made from many oil sources, it can be manufactured anywhere in the United States, keeping production local. Once tested for purity, the biodiesel is blended with petroleum diesel in any percentage from 2-20% for best efficiency. “Cetane value, lower emissions, and engine lubrication are all factors which make BioDiesel™ blends superior to standard petroleum diesel. Our biodiesel is made right here in New England, to ASTM standards for quality. That’s important for consumers to know, because state law requires that the fuel meet ASTM standards to be commercially available,” says Lohr.

“We’ve been running all our fuel delivery trucks on BioDiesel™ blended fuel for 3 years, and have experienced improved engine efficiency, quieter operation, more power under load, improved mileage, as well as reducing emissions. It doesn’t matter how old or new the truck is, if it’s a diesel engine, it can run on BioDiesel™. We’re delighted Haley Brook Market is the first station in the area to offer it.”

Haley Brook Market is located on Gold Star Highway, Route 184 in Groton/Old Mystic, CT. Their location is convenient to I95 exits 89 and 90. For more information on BioDiesel™, visit www.guardianfuel.com or www.biodiesel.org.
