Middletown: At its annual "Lenders and Partners" meeting in Middletown on October 7, the Small Business Administration (SBA) honored the CT Procurement Technical Assistance Program (CT-PTAP) with its "Special Resource Partner of the Year" award for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. The SBA's CT office and CT-PTAP have had a long-standing relationship, partnering together in various events such as procurement workshops at area community colleges and matchmaker events throughout the state. In the fiscal year that ended on September 30, CT-PTAP participated in, or sponsored over 42 such events. During this year the PTAP staff also conducted a total of 3800 personal counseling sessions, at 1000 client businesses. These businesses, in just the first six months of the 2009 fiscal year, realized contracts in the amount of $204.3 million, which created or retained over 4000 jobs in Connecticut.

In presenting CT-PTAP Program Director Brien Robertson with this award, SBA District Director Bernie Sweeney said, "It is because of this partnership that the SBA and CT-PTAP have been able to assist and educate numerous small businesses in the State of Connecticut on how to do business with the federal government and the State of Connecticut. Without the assistance that PTAP provides these [small] businesses, this state would certainly have a void that would be hard to fill."

The CT-PTAP program is headquartered at the Southeastern CT Enterprise Region (seCTer) in New London, with satellite offices in Hartford and Bridgeport, and services businesses throughout Connecticut. The program is funded in part by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and in part by the State of Connecticut and seCTer.
