Families United is collecting recipes to support Families, Youth, and Healthy Communities

Specifically, we seek menu items that can be sorted into categories such as:

  • New Cooks- Essential for young adults or new cooks preparing basic meals for the first time
  • Healthy Meals in 30-Minutes- Geared toward busy and/or working families
  • Menu Options for Children/Youth- Options for those with specific dietary requirements due to allergies, medical, or mental health needs
  • Ethnic Foods- This will be helpful not only to share your favorite meals, but also to provide to Foster parents for cultural competence and awareness.
  • Healthy Snacks- Youth friendly snacks that can be prepared when youth come home from school or on their own with limited supervision
  • Drinks/Smoothies/Desserts- Easy recipes for drinks, smoothies or desserts for celebrations, holidays, or just because...

As an individual with ADD, research shows many cases have been linked to diet- this includes food allergies and nutritional deficiencies. If a family/youth simply eliminates certain foods or adds others, it may reduce or eliminate symptoms. For example, children diagnosed with ADD typically have difficulty focusing which is even more apparent if they have eaten foods with sugar or other stimulants.

Making healthy food choices is not costly or difficult! Healthy eating benefits everyone, whether dealing with a current health issue or for prevention purposes.

Families United appreciates your recipes. We will compile them into a beautiful cookbook as a free resource for Families United's families and youth. It will also be used as a fundraiser to sustain Families United's program services. Please submit recipes to email@familiesunited.org by May 20, 2011. Be sure to state the category of recipe and as much nutritional information as possible.

We also welcome any photos, testimony, restaurant, or family information to include if space permits.

Thank you in advance!
