Sounds of Summer Sing Again at Harkness!


It is official!  Bring Our Music Back, Inc. has  been awarded a 5-year contract from the State of Connecticut,  to produce  “August Nights at Harkness . . . Music the way it was!” at the revered state landmark, Harkness Memorial State Park, located along the shoreline in Waterford, CT.

Bring Our Music Back, Inc. presents August Nights at Harkness . . . Music the way it was!  The concerts to be held at Harkness Memorial State Park, Waterford, CT are scheduled for Thursday, August 4 and 11, 2011 with music from 6-10p with performances by the following:

  • Thurs., August 4th A Magical Summer's Eve of Golden Oldies featuring the legendary Shirley Alston Reeves, The Shirelles & Charlie Thomas’ Drifters. Opening Performances by Silver Hammer and The Dick Campo Big Band
  • Thurs., August 11th Moonlight Serenade featuring The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra Opening Performance by the Glenn Hansen Orchestra with youth performers


All music will be held from 6:00p-10p.  Gates open at 5:30P pm for traditional picnicking. State parking fees apply until 6:30p  Rain or Shine.  Back up Rain site will be The Garde Arts Center. The Bee and Thistle Inn & Spa of Old Lyme will sponsor the Best Picnic awards.  Dancing and Oldies attire welcomed ! The concerts are made possible in part through the Dominion Foundation, Community Foundation of Eastern CT, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, and Christine A. Moser Foundation, Hall Radio Group, The New London Day (as of print time).

Sounds of Summer at Harkness

Chairman of the Board, Frank Bombaci, Sr. of Bring Our Music Back, Inc. and team will work with the community to bring music back to Harkness Memorial State Park the way it was in the beginning --simple, professionally produced, wonderful mid-week alfresco music, all about family, friends and community enjoying the beauty of one of Connecticut’s state treasures, Harkness Memorial State Park. “The goal of August Nights at Harkness is to stage a community involved event for the whole family to enjoy while picnicking in the park on a summers night. All concerts will open with a local youth music performance” says Bombaci.

Connecticut Department of Environmental Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said, “Historically, Harkness Memorial State Park is known for its outstanding summer music series and it is great to have musical favorites returning again this year.  Join your family and friends at this beautiful shoreline retreat for a relaxing evening picnic while listening to music under the stars.”

Bring Our Music Back, Inc is a non-profit 501( c )(3) organization dedicated to the enrichment of life and community through music in support of young aspiring musicians, programs and services within our communities.  The initiative of our concerts is designed to give burgeoning talent a voice and venue with national recording artists while providing a platform to raise funds to give back to music initiatives within the community.  This is Music with Purpose.   The 2011 August Nights at Harkness  proceeds will fund the community youth music program initiatives of Bring Our Music Back, Inc.  Additionally, Bring Our Music Back, Inc. is proud to announce a portion of ticket sales will be donated back to the State of Connecticut  for the upkeep in the park.

Concert Tickets are $20.00 in advance; $25.00 at the Door and Ticket Packages for 2-packet subscription series are $37.00.  Children 12 and under are free with an adult or guardian .
