MONTY PYTHON'S TWIST ON ARTHURIAN LEGEND "SPAMALOT" TO COME TO THE GARDE

Catapulting cows, killer rabbits, legless knights and taunting Frenchmen to take to the Garde Arts Center's stage

The Tony Award-winning, hilarious romp through the Middle Ages, "Monty Python's Spamalot," will bring its twist on Arthurian legend to New London's Garde Arts Center on Sunday, November 7, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. as the opening production of the 2010-11 Broadway at the Garde Series. The performances are sponsored by The Day, Blu-Prints Unlimited, New London Harbour Towers and Robinson & Cole, LLP.

Lovingly ripped off from the 1975 film classic "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Spamalot" tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the legendary ancient relic the Holy Grail. Flying cows, a chorus line of legless knights, a killer rabbit and show-stopping musical numbers such as the irresistibly amusing "He Is Not Dead Yet," "The Song That Goes Like This," "You Won't Succeed On Broadway" and "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" are just a few of the reasons audiences everywhere are eating up "Spamalot."
The brain child of Monty Python member Eric Idle, "Spamalot" made its Broadway debut in 2005. The original production, directed by Mike Nichols with a book by Idle and music and lyrics by Idle and John Du Prez, won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical of 2005, and received 14 Tony Award nominations. During its initial run of more than 1,500 performances, the musical was seen by more than two million people and grossed over $175 million.

The Broadway at the Garde Series brings the finest national tours of Broadway musicals to New London. The Broadway at the Garde Series shows scheduled for the 2010-11 year include the Broadway Special "Cirque Le Masque" (Dec. 17-18), "The Color Purple" (Feb. 27), "The Wizard of Oz" (March 28-29), "Spring Awakening" (April 14-15) and "Beauty & The Beast" (June 10-11).
Tickets to "Monty Python's Spamalot" are $56 orchestra, $65 loge, $46 front balcony and $38 rear balcony and are available at the Garde Box Office, 325 State St., New London, Conn. The Garde Box Office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and two hours prior to curtain on performance days.
