Jazz Musician Wycliffe Gordon to Perform at Mystic Seaport
Summer
Solstice River Jazz concert to feature Gordon and his quintet

Wycliffe Gordon and his quintet will perform aboard the tall ship L.A.
Dunton at the 4th annual Summer Solstice River Jazz concert at
Mystic Seaport Saturday, June 19, from 7-10 p.m.Doors open at 6 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, June 20.
A highly acclaimed performer,
conductor, composer, arranger and educator, Gordon has been universally hailed
by jazz critics as "mixing powerful, intricate runs with sweet notes
extended over clean melodies." He received the Jazz Journalists
Association 2008, 2007, 2006, 2002 and 2001 Award for Trombonist of the Year
and the Jazz Journalists Association 2000 Critics’ Choice Award for Best
Trombone.
Gordon has
recorded 15
solo CDs and seven co-leader CDs. His latest effort, Cone and T-Staff,
was released in February 2010. In addition to a solo career, the musician tours
regularly with the Wycliffe Gordon Quartet, headlining at legendary jazz venues
throughout the world. He is a former veteran member of the Wynton Marsalis
Septet, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and has been a featured guest artist on
Billy Taylor's "Jazz at the Kennedy Center" Series. His
television appearances have included Ken Burns’ documentary Jazz, the
PBS documentary Swingin’ with the Duke and the Grammy Awards.
Additionally, Gordon is rapidly
becoming one of America’s most committed music educators and currently serves
on the faculty of the Jazz Arts Program at Manhattan School of Music. His work with
young musicians and audiences from elementary schools to universities all over
the world is extensive and includes master classes, clinics, workshops,
children’s concerts and lectures. Concert
tickets are $17 for adults and $7 for children ages 6-17. Museum members and
children ages 5 and under will be admitted for free. VIP seating on Chubb’s
Wharf is available for members only and is $20 per person. VIP seats must be
