Charter Oak Announces 2011 Scholarship Winners at Annual Meeting

Seven Area Students Will Receive $2,000 Scholarships

Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s 2011 Scholarship Winners Celebrate with CEO Brian Orenstein and Members of the Credit Union’s Board of Directors.

Groton, CT-May 17, 2011- Charter Oak Federal Credit Union presented seven local high school students with $14,000 in scholarships at its annual meeting held at the Groton Motor Inn on April 21st. Rewarding student members who excel academically and are active in their communities through extracurricular activities or community service, Charter Oak’s Community Scholarship Program awarded $2,000 to each of the students as their friends, family and fellow Credit Union members looked on.

Hailing from various towns throughout the region, winners were Allison Michaud of Westerly, RI; Austin Konon of Colchester, CT; Bethany Holland of Gales Ferry, CT; Claire Chambers of Stonington, CT; Christos Haveles of Danielson, CT; Cooper Avery Johnson of Colchester, CT and Zachary Smith of Niantic, CT. Winning students will be attending a variety of higher education institutions, including Providence College, Sacred Heart University, Stanford University, Texas A & M University and the University of Connecticut.

High school students weren’t the only ones being honored at Charter Oak’s annual meeting. Victoria Damaschi and Andrea Hartke were honored with Quarter Century Awards from the Credit Union League of Connecticut for their 25+ years of service in the credit union industry, while Charter Oak was presented the 2010 Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. Also presented that evening was the Credit Union National Association’s Marketing & Business Development Council’s Diamond Award for Best Community/PR Program.
