Looking Back: A Year of Serving Eastern CT

The Chamber wishes you a healthy and productive start to 2018! Join us in taking a moment to reflect back on some of our favorite highlights from serving eastern CT in 2017:

January: Networking
The Chamber hosts 150+ events throughout the year, each offering ample opportunity for guests to meet each other and grow their networks. We kicked off 2017 with an enjoyable evening of networking at Hoffman Audi in New London. Join us for the 2018 event on January 24!

February: Legislative Agenda
The Chamber advocates on behalf of our members with our elected officials. The Chamber’s Legislative Affairs Committee monitors legislation under consideration in Hartford and works with our lobbyist to advance proposed bills that enhance the quality of life for eastern CT businesses and residents. March: Eastern CT’s Premier Home Show
Eastern CT’s Premier Home Show was presented FREE on March 4 and 5 by the Chamber and the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Eastern CT. This one-weekend-only home show showcased contracting forms, construction companies, financiers, energy services, media services, and much more – all of whom are ready and waiting to help transform your home inside and out. April: Greater Mystic Tourism Marketing Committee Outlines the Path Ahead
The Chamber formed the Greater Mystic Tourism Marketing Committee in early spring 2017 as a conglomeration of tourism industry partners determined to market our region and its great attractions to visitors within and beyond Connecticut. In April, the Committee began taking concrete steps to position eastern Connecticut as a tourism destination of choice.

May: Mary Lenzini Recognized as Eastern CT’s Citizen of the Year
Mary Lenzini, President of the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern CT, was recognized on May 31 for her lifetime of good work. Friends, family, and supporters gathered at Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton to celebrate her good work improving the health and economy of eastern CT.

June: Leadership Class of 2017 Graduates
Participants of the Chamber’s Leadership Program Class of 2017 completed the two-year program with a graduation ceremony on June 14 at Ocean Beach Park. These future leaders are equipped to lead their businesses and communities against the challenges that eastern CT faces. Learn more at ChamberECT.com/leadership.

July: Ribbon Cutting for Copper Creek Mini Golf at Nature’s Art Village
We were pleased to cut a ceremonial ribbon on July 18 celebrating the completion of the new Copper Creek Mini Golf course at Nature’s Art Village in Oakdale. The grand opening of this educational attraction was filmed by fellow Chamber member Astor Place Inc. This new family-friendly attraction is open seasonally.

August: Chamber Unveils Community Concierge
The Chamber unveiled our Community Concierge program, which connects new residents to eastern CT with a wealth of information about moving, living, and working here. This initiative is supported by CTNext as part of a project to develop the communities of New London and Groton. Find out more at CommunityECT.com.

September: Sea Jet Cruise & Dessert Showcase
Our Sea Jet Cruise & Dessert Showcase aboard Cross Sound Ferry Services’ Sea Jet on September 13 offered spectacular views of the eastern CT coastline and lighthouses, as well as scrumptious treats prepared by four expert caterers.

October: Total Life Expo
The Total Life Expo took place at Mohegan Sun on October 21 with free admission for all. This health-related exhibition offered an artisan market, exhibitors, kids’ activities, healthy cooking demos, and much more to show how to live well in mind and body. November: Small Business Saturday
The Chamber took a lead role in spreading awareness of Small Business Saturday, a nationwide celebration on November 25 that encourages people to shop small and support local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Small Business Saturday 2018 falls on November 24.

December: Chamber Foundation’s 34th Annual Holiday Gala
The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation presented its 34th Annual Holiday Gala at Mohegan Sun on December 8. This event raised over $122,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships, and auction proceeds. Funds will be distributed to children-oriented eastern CT non-profits in early 2018.
